Winds

The winds, or anemoi in hellenic, had meteorological interest as well as magickal interest. Meteorology was a very important science and highly developed with astronomy and astrology and meteorology had even medical extensions, but in this article we will see them as Gods who rule the directions of the air.

Deipnon

One night before the Dark Moon, in ancient Hellas, food was offered to the Goddess Hekate by all citizens, in public places. Deipna (or suppers in english) were left in theee ways crossroads (triodos), a sacred place for Hekate. The offerings has two meanings, to calm the Goddess in their favor and to protect her followers. Moreover, spirits and ghosts who were wandering this night could find pleasure. The result of this action was that those spirits would not cause troubles in the city.

Orphic Hymn

Hymns are poems praising the divine and they are used to invoke the God/Goddess in the place in which a ceremony takes place by the Witch of the God/Goddess.

In ancient texts for Hekate we find the first of the orphic hymns the hymn to Hekate (11.835 b.C. or 1366 b.C.). Many years later, Proclus writes an hymn for Hekate and Ianus (400 a.C.). The homeric hymn to Demeter (3000 b.C.)is reffering to Hekate and her power as long as her character. In Greek Magical Papyri (abbreviated PGM) the hymn to Selene is an hymn to Hekate (2nd centrury b.C. to 4rth centrury a.C.). Selene and Hekate were the same Goddess.

Correspondences

In Witchcraft every living thing has some specific energies. If similar energies could be combined they produce higher energy and the spell is effective. The connection between plants and crystals, incenses and colors, flowers, and feathers... could be achieved through tables of correspondences. It is important to know some basic herbs and crystals by heart and not need to use always the books.
Hekate is a liminal Goddess. She is connected with other Goddesses and sometimes the connection is so strong that we can say they are the same Goddess. She is connected with all the herbs as a teacher of pharmakeia, the art of the herbs for healing, magickal and poisoning purposes. She likes general and special offerings. So, let's see what Hekate likes in general.

Virtues of the COH

Witchcraft has laws to keep the cosmic balance. Laws lead to ethics and rules of conduct. So, a Witch follows rules and has a good behaviour. In ancient times, Withes were wise people who knew how to manipulate knowledge for the wellness of a community. Their social respected role, lead them close to kings and people of great power.

Nowadays, modern witches follow rules, which are very close to our civilization. Some devotees of Hekate, who belong to the Covenant of Hekate have made a list with five basic virtues, that connect Hekate and her followers.
