Sykoutre's Philosophy Of Life

Philosophy of Life is a series of lectures given by a modern Hellene, legendary, philologist, Ioannes Sykoutres, around 1930. Foreign scholars wrote that modern Hellas met a second presence from ancient Hellas, meaning him. He was a professor at the university of Athens and he studied at the Universities of Athens, Berlin and Leipzig, entering the circle of Willamowitz and Jaeger. He founded philological societies for students, writers and professors and the school Askraios. He also participated in any attempt of bringing the ancient and the modern civilization to the surface.

Stoics on Piety

In the following article we will see how two main Stoic philosophers saw piety on Gods. From the blog we have also seen the opinions of Theophrastus and Plutarch on that subject.

Spindle Of Necessity And Strophalos

Some days ago, I followed a pathworking being in theta-gamma. The Goddess Hekate played an important role to this exercise as I asked Her to show me a symbol for my further personal evolution. From a point I could't continue with the existed story of the pathworking as the Goddess created scenes in which I coudln't interfere with my imagination. In this journey She took me to a place which I found later that it was also described in the last book of Plato's Politeia in the concept of the myth, the myth of Er. My purpose is not to reveal the pathworking but the conclusions, the myth and my commentaries.

Timaios And The Creation Of The Universe

Timaios is one of the dialogues of Plato, which the great philosopher wrote in his latest years. It is a continuation of “About Town” or “About Justice” and after that, Kritias should be read, at least the fragment that is has survived to us. Another title for Timaios is “About Nature”. It was the main text of cosmology till 13th century, when the Physics and Metaphysics of Aristotle were discovered. The first two parts have been survived in latin and the third in hellenic. Plato uses Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics, Pathology, Cosmology and Metaphysics in his dialogue.

Commentary on Philebos

In this article we will examine how the neoplatonic philosophers view the interferences of the Gods in their lives concerning good things. I read a comment from the dialogue of Plato, Philebos. The comment was saved by Damascios but it containts a teaching of Iamblichos.

Ancient Text

"As it seems to mee, Gods give a present to people, as it was done with Prometheas who brought down the ultra-bright fire." (Philebos 16c)

Position of the Cosmic Soul

On the work of Proclos, Commentaries on Timaios, we read a comment about a platonic teaching concerning the positioning of the soul. Porphyrios, Iamblichos and Proclos give their views. Read the following text having in mind that the Goddess Hekate is the cosmic soul, the soul of the universe, putting the soul of the universe in the middle between the mental and the tangible world.

Plato, Timaios 34b

“He positioned the soul in its middle and spread it all over the world and he covered the outside with the body.”

Viewing the Gods with Porphyry

Neoplatonic philosopher Porphyry was married old with Marcella who has seven children. He had to leave the city for a while. He wrote to her a letter to read it when she will miss him. This text has a lot of ethical teachings of neoplatonism and as philosophy was connected with theology, it contains a lot information about piety and the correct way of worshipping the gods. In this article I will provide some of the best teachings concerning honoring the gods.

Porphyry About Leto, Dog, Snake, Hekate

Recently Hekate lead me to the work "About Statues" of the neo-platonic philosopher Porphyry. I was meeting him, many times in references of ancient texts and modern studies. I was impressed when I started to read about him and about his teacher, Plotinos. The philosophical school of neoplatonism seems very interesting for a witch, especially for platonics. In this article we will see how Porphyry is decoding the names and the properties of Gods.

Porphyry About Angels, Gods, Depictions

From the 15 books that the neoplatonic philosopher, Porphyry had written in the 3rd century a.C. in order to examine the teachings of students of Christ under the lens of logic and philosophy, nothing has been survived except some fragments from references of other writers that Professor Adolf von Harnack in 1916 collected and reconstructed a book with quotes that most of them are attributed to Porphyry. In this article I have translated a part of the book (the responses of Makarios Magnes) in which Porphyry is presenting a teaching in which angels of christianity and gods of the ancient religion are the same entities and another part from the same book with great meanings.
