Searching Hekate In Lenormand

Cartomancy is my field. While I was reading cards for a friend, I thought it might be a good idea to write about the hand of Hekate in the Lenormand cards. In the following article you are going to read about this method (French Cartomancy) and how I see the main properties and the main energy of Hekate in those cards.

Torches in Hellenic Mythology

One of the most well-known symbols of Goddess Hekate is the torch. Other goddesses and gods have as symbol the torch. Let's see who they are.

Invocation to Selene

I used the Homeric hymn to Selene, the Orphic hymn to Selene and the Idylls of Theocritus as the main sources of inspiration in order to write the following invocation.

Cleanse your space.

Erect the temple.

Anoint your forehead with pure olive oil shaping a crescent moon.

Make the gesture of invoking/praising.

Idean Dactyls

Ide is a mountain in Crete. Ide is also a mountain of Troy, the later Frygia of Asia Minor. From those mountains some very clever creatures were born, Idaioi Daktyloi (Ιδαίοι Δάκτυλοι), means fingers of Ide.

The epic poet Phorokides at 6th centrury b.C. wrote a poem about three Witches from Ide. Their names were:

  • Kelmis
  • Damnameneus
  • Alkmon

They worked with a strong metal, called black iron. They made tools from iron. According to the Pario Chroniko, this discovery were made at 1432 b.C.
